Dan Fenelon

Dan “Wavedog” Fenelon has been an artist for as long as he can remember. As a painter his works have appeared in galleries in New York, Miami, Philadelphia, Boston, Santa Fe and Chicago.

As a graphic designer his work ranges from national sports logo designs to Hot Wheels and Mad Libs. When he isn’t busy painting or doing graphic design work Dan creates and animates cartoons and designs websites.

His passion and skills as an artist extend into his local community where he works with emerging artists in high school helping them build their portfolios for college.

Artist Statement

In my current landscape series, I try to portray the luminosity of the skies, and everything they touch, painting in layers of colour. A ‘wet on wet’ technique effectively blends colour, adds depth to the canvas, and evokes time and space.

Many of my paintings start with a moment in time, or a colour --sometimes one little cross-section of colour on a larger plane. I have been especially interested in capturing the essence of the night sky. Some nights the skies just glow, illuminating everything beneath.

Up until now, man could look skywards and tell what type of weather was imminent. In this age of global warming, where many people are still unaware of just how quickly the earth is changing, the skies are more beautiful, more volatile, than ever—but at what cost?

I am interested in the ways in which the luminosity of the skies changes the appearance of things. The night skies have so many colours.

Jo Mari Montesa

Jo Mari is a Visual Artist by talent. He has Masters Degree in Business Administration, Accountancy is his profession and currently working in a bank. But his heart really belongs to the Art world. Since his boyhood he joined many art contests in different mediums. He has informal trainings in Painting, Technical Drawing and Photography. Also, a student and a believer of Humanities. Jo Mari is also into Photography. He joined competitions both local and international. Some of his Photographic works are now in the hands of private collectors. Right now the artist is concentrated in painting. Specifically Oil painting on canvas. He hopes that he will be known for this medium. Most of his paintings are influenced by the rich culture and tradition in the Philippines. For example his series of Immaculate Concepcion oil paintings are inspired by the dark wood used in the icons of the Virgin Mary centuries ago when Spain brought Christianity to the Philippines. This type of wood are used to make the skin complexion of the Virgin similar to Asian or a Filipina. Jo Mari have also done Landscapes, Still Life and Abstract paintings.

Oogenesis

This piece is a celebration of the female form and the great dance and mystery of creation. In creating it, I wanted to give the impression of the great fluidity that occurs in the process of creation and of the shared interconnectedness of motherhood.

Fireworks

FIREWORKS is a plaster slab piece that was hand-poured and sanded. This piece does not come framed and needs to be displayed using a metal stand. Fireworks demonstrates the fascination and wonder of the night sky in July and is the symbol of freedom and independence.

Christian-Rhen Stefani is a professional abstract artist that has been working in the art field for many years. She is known for her unique twists in the abstract art form and her one-of-a-kind style and technique. A person of vision, CRStefani always searches for new ways to express herself through the abstract medium. She does not limit her creation to just one kind of support - she actually uses all supports that come in contact with her. For this reason, she has some of her work splattered against posterboard, cardboard, hard-pressed wood paneling, glass, CDs, wood, canvas boards, stretched canvas, plaster, clay, and mirrors. CRStefani is currently working on the "Reinvention Collection" - a collection which has over 28 pieces to date.

ABOUT ARTWORK:
CRStefani works primarily with acrylics on stretched canvas, canvas board, glass, CDs, plaster, clay, posterboard, wood, slate, mirrors, and cardboard. Her main medium is acrylics, but she has been known to use oils and watercolors, as well. Her work revolves entirely around the abstract tradition and uses loads of color to explode emotion and sentiment throughout her work. This use of color in her work has been self-labeled as "Abstract Colorism". She is known for her splatter-effect pieces and uses many different techniques to provide this unique style. CRStefani is also known for her smooth use of layers and color combinations that she employs in her mirror and glass works. Everything that is created by CRStefani is unique, original, well-thoughtout, and deliberate. When sold, her work comes completely authenticated by certificate and autograph.

Boy with Flowers

This work was inspired by one of my other paintings (see \"Girl without Flowers\"). From the moment I completed the \"Girl,\" she seemed to be crying out for a companion. I had created her to express the feelings of isolation and aloneness that plague the human heart. But day after day she looked at me from the canvas, until I could leave her alone no more. So I created \"Boy with Flowers.\" When viewed side by side, these related works echo one another in the theme of sorrow: the vibrant colors, the fragmented faces, each with a single tear, the distorted limbs and the location of the flowers, reveals that although he indeed has flowers, he shall never be able to give them to the girl.

Original oil paiting on canvas Year:2006 My Great Great Grandfather is Placido Gino who just passed away when I was a toddler. I am his first Great Great Grandson. The stories and ideas of him was just narrated to me by her daughter, Aunt Amada. Grandfather Placido did not have a formal schooling but manages his financial well. He has three fishing boats and manufactures Pineapple weave textiles. He had a hundred employees. His sport was bird hunting. They use blowguns to kill the birds. Together with his two friends they hunt the mountains of Montalban, Rizal. One season while they were concentrated and busy tracking the birds they lost track of time. They must return to civilization since their supplies are all consumed. They trailed the forest as fast as they could but the night was even faster. Soon darkness and fog blanket the forest. While trying to trace the trail they found themselves in front of an old nipa hut. You would think that it was abandoned without the small gas lantern lit near the window. They knock and asked for help since they were lost in the forest. The door opened and three beautiful women where inside. They explained their situation and the women gladly accept them to stay for the night. The women are very hospitable. They always kept a warm smile on their face even though they were ready to sleep in their kamison and tapis when my grandfather and his friends disturbed them. After a few conversations the women offered them food. A hot bowl of sopas was served on the table. They were ready to eat the soup and scooped the elbow pastas with the wooden spoon when they were surprised with what they saw. Together with the elbow pastas were little fingers of children. They tried not to panic for fear of the women. They secretly dropped the fingers to the bamboo floor and into the splits the little fingers fell to the soil below. When they were done the women showed them their room to sleep for the night. They did not sleep but attentively listen to their surroundings. They heard noises like of big roosters clapping their wings. They cautiously and silently went up and searched the hut. Below the hut they found big pots containing gold bars and near it with amazement they saw three pairs of legs from stomach down wearing the tapis worn by the women. They think fast and decided to put salts to the intestines. They know about these creatures from Philippine mythology. They are called Mananangal. An evil being, were from human form transforms by splitting his or her body into two. The upper part had wings and fly to hunt humans for food. The lower part of the body was hidden because they were venerable. After scattering the salts all over the intestines my grandfather and his friends hide. Soon the three mananangal returned. They cried after they saw what my grandfather and his friends did to their lower extremities. The women beg them to remove the salts because no matter how they try to land and put back together their bodies they failed. They explained that they have not done them any harm. They told them that when the sun rises and still they are not with their lower bodies they would burn and die. They bargained for anything. Pleasures or treasures, just remove the salts from their intestines. My grandfather and his friends became more afraid since the three female beasts became desperate. If they will not help them they might just kill them too. They asked the three women to leave them while they remove the salts so that they could also have time to run for their safety. After they removed the salts they ran as fast as they could and never again returned to that place.

Harry Sepulveda

Have attended Pratt Institute, The Brooklyn Musem Art School and The School of Visual (SVA) all in New York City but learned mostly on my own. As a kid I used to make constructions in the ground using twigs. Got my first drawing pad and started drawing in the fifth grade. A visual artist creating in several media. I've done hundreds of 3 x 5 inch sketches while riding the trains. I do Collage, Pen& Ink, Colored Pencil,a series of unusual Si-fi drawings (the Harrision series). Basically a city dweller for 40 yrs however from a small town in upstate New York. I am motivated by physics, phycology, the cosmos, history. Tend to read 'heavy' stuf. Love to make people laugh.

Early Sorrow

This piece is an abstract self-portrait. It is based on a dream I had when I was three years old. The dream left me with a profound confusion and a deep and lasting sorrow that I would never sort through the confusion. This piece was created to express the sorrow that isolation and aloneness bring to the human heart. The girl is trapped inside the canvas, broken and alone, and hearing the sounds of the world through doors that she cannot enter.

I was born in Orleans, Indiana. My grandparents were part Chippewa also known as the Ojibwa. I attended Indiana State, Indiana University and William and Mary. I have taught in The Prosser Vocational School in New Albany, Indiana. I have been in Architectural Design field for the past 25 years. I loves to work with watercolors, oils and pencil. My wife Leah and I have travel abroad and visited many galleries in London and Paris. I recently retired from my full time job and devoting my senior years to traveling and painting.

Julie Pedersen

Julie Pedersen was born in Chicago in 1957. When she was 18 months old, she contracted encephalitis and hasn't slept well since. When she does sleep, she "dreams non-stop." It is from the infinite pool of these dreams and the impact they have on her waking life that her art is created. In addition to her paintings, Julie is also an accomplished writer with six screenplays, a book (The Panic Diaries), two produced one-act musicals and a forthcoming novel called Seabury.

Co-owner of the Northwest Arkansas based Pixelbenders Design Studio. Been in business since 1999. Co-founder of the Northwest Arkansas Art Directors Club, founded in 2003. Born in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, raised in between Boulder and Estes Park, Colorado. Went to high school in Scottsdale, Arizona, military school at NMMI in Roswell, N.M. and finished off my tour of midwest high schools in Rogers, Arkansas. Been drawing or painting since I could hold a pen or brush. Would like to sculpt some here one of these days. Working on an abstract watercolor series for the past 2 years, keep giving them away or donating them before I can get any framed and sold. I\'ve had the pleasure of meeting: Kyle Cooper, Chip Kidd, Marc English, Marc Burkhardt, Anita Kuntz, Sandy Collora, Gary Baseman, Modern Dog, Lowell Williams of Pentagram...actually talked to David Byrne on the phone once, that was a trip. Got to hang out with Donald Roller Wilson at his studio (dude does amazing paintings of...monkeys in dresses holding cigarettes while covered in dew...and other weird animal related paintings)...and man, that guy...\'quirky\' doesn\'t quite do it. Neither does essentric. Ask me about that, I have an amusing story or 2 to tell.
